Did your WhatsApp ZIP come complete?

Drag the ZIP that WhatsApp exported here, or pick the file on your phone. The reading happens in your browser: the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored. In seconds you know whether the export came with the photos, the audios and the documents, or with the text alone.

What to do if it came without media

WhatsApp keeps the text and the media in different places, and an export without media replaces each photo, audio or document with a line that only says when and who sent it. To bring the whole chat, export again with media:

  • On Android: open the chat, tap the three dots in the top right corner, then More and Export chat, and choose Include media.
  • On iPhone: open the chat, tap the name at the top, scroll to Export chat and choose Attach media.
  • WhatsApp has two limits: the export with media has a size cap and only includes what is still downloaded on the device. In a long chat, export shorter periods, with media, and check each ZIP here.
  • Media deleted from the phone before the export is in no export at all: the line stays, the file does not.

Nothing leaves your device

The page reads the ZIP inside your browser, with the file where it is. No piece of the chat, no name and no media is sent to any server, and nothing is stored when you close the page. The check creates no account and asks for no e-mail. The TranscriptMe Privacy Policy applies to the whole site.

Did the ZIP come complete? The next step is reading the whole chat.

In TranscriptMe the same ZIP becomes a searchable case: the lawyer asks in plain language and gets the answer with the source cited, the message or the second of the audio. The Free account reads the text and the documents and a media sample (the first 10 audios, the first 10 photos and the first video); on the paid plans, every audio is transcribed and becomes searchable text, with the evidence cited.

Frequently asked questions

Does the other person know I exported the chat?

No. Exporting is a feature of your own WhatsApp: the file is created on your device and nobody is notified, neither the other participant nor the group. The chat stays the same on the phone.

What happens when I export?

WhatsApp creates a ZIP with a text file of the whole chat and, if you choose to include media, the photos, audios, videos and documents still on the device. Nothing is deleted and nothing changes in the chat. Drop that ZIP here to check what came.

Why is the chat full of "Media omitted"?

Because the export was made without media. In that mode WhatsApp writes "Media omitted" in place of each photo, audio, video or document, without the file name. The text comes whole; the media stays on the phone. Export again with the option to include media.

Is the ZIP uploaded to a server?

No. The reading happens in your browser, with the file on your device. Nothing is sent and nothing is stored.

Does it work for iPhone and Android?

Yes. The page reads the export of both, in Portuguese and in English, with or without media. On the phone, use the button to choose the file; on the computer, you can drag it.

What is the sum of the audios?

It is the total length of the voice notes that came in the ZIP, added up from the duration of each file, without playing any of them. It is the time someone would need to listen to everything. For formats whose duration is not in the file header, the page estimates by size and says so.

Does this certify the chat?

No. The page checks what came inside the ZIP and counts what is there; it does not certify the authenticity of the chat, does not replace forensic work and does not produce evidence. For a court case where integrity matters, the path is a forensic extraction of the device by an expert.
